Lock tuning

I have had a India made trade gun 20 ga for 15 years and it has been a consistent sparker . I have shot this gun a lot. Would like to have the lock tuned and need a recommendation of a reasonably priced person to tune it?
Any suggestions?

Brad Eming at the Log Cabin Shop is supposed to specialize in lock tuning, I think he charges around $120 to go through a lock. I don't know if he works on India locks or what he would charge for one.

Thanks I called and they do work on India locks. Price is $80 for tune up with no parts needed. I will send mine to him.

Just curious, if it's been a consistent sparker, has something recently changed with the lock or are you having it tuned to improve performance?

No real problem. Need to replace the jaw screw so ordered one from tow. After 15 years just thinking it might need some help for top performance. I might be pleasantly surprised at the results? It’s worth the price of tuning to keep it running. It’s been a great pleasure so far.

At that price you can buy a new one!! Yikes!!

However the new lock would probably still need to be tuned. It may functional as delivered new, but the fine tuning to make the performance the best it could be would still need to be done.

Brad has run Cabin Creek Muzzleloading for several lifetimes now.

Truth be told I should send in my Pedersoli lock for a tune up. It stinks to pay what one dose for a gun then have to send it it so it works right!:-(

You can buy a Kibler lock for $285 and you won't need to have it tuned. It comes well tuned and is worth every penny. Trouble is that it probably won't fit too many lock mortices so you're stuck with getting the old lock tuned up.

When I bought a Indian first flint gun like I did 15 years ago I was amazed and happy that It made sparks and went boom.I didn’t know what I didn’t know about it. So after about 5 years I acquired a Lyman flintlock and wow what a difference in lock time and of course accuracy. Even so I have always enjoyed the challenge of the smooth bore and sold the Lyman. But now I had learned there were improvements that could be made. I still love the smoothie and have decided to find out just how much better a tuned lock will improve performance and even $200 for a tune up is way cheaper than buying a new gun. I suspect I will not regret the effort.

A few years ago I bought a pair of Pedersoli FL pistols brand new, only to find the Touch hole vents didnt line up with Pan centre on both of them.

I've been reading and hearing similar negative comments on the downgrading of Pedersoli quality even recently, mind you their prices are still through the roof.
