Allen Eckard in Wilderness Empire writes about "...pistols with barrels so long they looked more like walking canes than firearms,..." (p. 39)

What are these? Does anyone know of a source for reproduction?

I just googled the name of the book and found out it has to do with the French and Indian War(correct me if I am wrong)

For that period I would have thought pistols with 8 to 10 inch barrels were more usual. 100 years earlier 12-14 inches was a normal length for a pistol barrel.

Neither is close to walking stick size

I once was about $50 short of a purchase at an antique store. It was a cased .45 caliber percussion boxlock screwbarrel pistol. The case included full accessories, a 2" barrel for pocket use, a 10" or so barrel with adjustable target sights for use as a gallery gun. Then there was the walking stick barrel with a "safty plug" to prevent dirt from entering the barrel when used as a walking stick.

Maybe that is where the author got the idea.
