Hello, I am looking for a low cost double trigger .36 or .40 for 17 year old that wants to squirrel hunt with it. His funds are limited but a man couldnt ask for a better neighboor! If you have one please contact me at [email protected] with price and details.

May Your Fire Light In the Wind,
3 Trees

Check the classified forum section. User's rifles are for sale on there. I believe there is also a "looking for" section too. Good luck!

3 Trees....welcome. :hatsoff: I will keep my eyes open and do a little looking around when I can. In my mind everyone who wants a traditional muzzleloader should be able to have one. I have a .45 I might be talked out of but that's a little large for tree rats. I think a .36 or a .32 is what you're looking for. Another option is a kit depending on how much you are willing to spend. PM me if you like and I can round up some kit prices for you. I would be willing to donate my labour to assemble and finish it for the right person. Good neighbours are hard to come by.

Cabela's Blue Ridge rifle (Pedersoli Frontier, same rifle) comes in .32 and .36 caplock and costs $519.99. You're not going to find a new rifle for much cheaper than that.

You can keep your eye on the Classifieds in this forum and others or the gun auction sites like gunbroker or auctionarms for used ones.

Sportsman's Warehouse had the Crocket rifle for sale for under 300 last time I was in there.

3 trees,
Welcome and God bless you for what you are trying to do. You may want to consider a .45. You can use a light load for squirrels and rabbits. You can also up the charge and that squirrel rifle becomes a nice deer rifle. I won't hunt bear or elk with it, but anything from squirrels to deer are fair game. I have a .45 that I've used in shooting matches, hunted tree sqirrels and deer and never felt over or under gunned. It makes for a good all round rifle. Good luck in your search  .

The Crocket is a .32, which would be fine for squirrels. They could probably sell more of them if they made them in .36 or .45.

The Log Cabin Shop ( http://www.logcabinonline.com/ )
has a Traditions Small Game percussion rifle in .32 cal. for 212.95 (Item #1136128). Not the fanciest, but does have a wood stock. Looks like it'd be fine for assassinating tree rats.

.32s are loads of fun and shoot for pocket change. Don't think there'd be any better caliber for a young person to start out with.

The Possible Shop has the wood-stocked .36 Bobcat for $185. Single trigger and not as traditionally-styled as the others, but more affordable than anything else out there...

Deer Creek used to carry the CVA squirrel in .36 for under $150... but it doesn't have the double trigger mentioned in the original post. If he could live with a single trigger, I would check Deer Creek for prices/availability also. I bought one for my youngest son, and they are neat little rifles for the money.

I spoke to Deer Creek this morning about some other stuff and asked while had them on the phone. They still have them, but there are only a few left. Their current price is $179, $6 less than the Possible Shop. Either way, the supply of them is drying up.

That .32 Traditions at the Log Cabin shop looks like the same rifle as the .36 Bobcat, both have 1:48 twist and large trigger guard, except the barrel is 2" shorter and it has fiber optic sights. I'd save $35 and go with the Bobcat (but I also prefer .36 over .32).
