We are looking for a replacement copper tea kettle that wont cost an arm and a leg. Our previous one went "missing" at our last civil war event. The thing was there in the morning and gone after our last battle of the day. I sure hope whoever walked off with it is
enjoying it :cursing:

I have been browsing the typical places on the net, but I dont want to pay $150 for a PC 1800 era tea kettle. The wifey wont use tin, so that is out.

One of the small flea markets near here had a beat up dented and slightly corroded one that the lady wanted $65 for. She wouldnt budge on the price and I wasnt paying that kind of money for a piece of junk.

Any other ideas out there?

I swear by Goosebay workshop. their items are always topnotch in quality and I believe they meet you price range. Here's the kettle:

and here's the link if you're interested: steep here

however, a quick googling brought up this: Steep here
I noticed a few period correct styles at very reasonable looking prices.

I'd like to suggest Backwoods Tin & Copper. Their tea pot "This is an adaptation of an early Tea Pot. It works great for heating water fast due to it's large bottom surface area. The pot is 8 inches in diameter at the bottom and tapers to 2 1/2 inches at the neck. It holds approximately 6 cups (36 ounces). It is available in tin or Copper" Their web site is :

Their price for the copper is $50.00

Please check www.shopgoodwill.com. It's an auction site where goodwills across the country put some of their better or more unusual items up for bid.
I just clicked on Search, then inquired the word "copper". There were several available, and one of them may fit the ticket nicely. I suspect if you inquired "tea" you'd find some more.
At the moment there are also several animal skins available, and there are frequently some nice wool blankets.

They have one at that Goodwill link currently the
bid is under 12 bucks.
snake-eyes :hmm:

If you're dilligent enough, I've found lots of copper on Ebay, often from Portugal, rather than Korea. I rarely pay more than $20.00 (including shipping) for anything, but I do tend to watch closely for items I'm looking for.

What's wrong with Korean Copper? I remember seeing tons of copper when I was over there, but never gave the items much thought. Is there a lead worry?
Regardless, I get real skiddish about foriegn made copper and tin ware.

Thanks for all the tips. I won a bid for one on the Shop Goodwill site. $10 for the kettle and $8 shipping. It looks pretty close to our previous one, and looks in great shape from the picture.

I am definetly going to be keeping an eye on that site.

Wow. Battleships & Battlecruisers for $5. It's a significant book and should be on the shelf of any big gun enthusiast. Opps, off topic.
