Looking for flint

I am looking for flint or pyrite to use as "Flint and Steel". I can make the strikers but don't have the stone.

Go to a library and get a book on geology for your area.

Flint, chert and other suitable rocks are found throughout the U.S.

Or, you could do like I did in my area...I took a rock hammer and my flint striker and went for a walk....Took about a half hour to find some.

I live on an island and most of the native rock is too soft. When I get to the mainland, I will follow your suggestion. Thanks

Go to the next gem and mineral show on the mainland. I found half boule?? for a good price.

Coal, sounds like you are in the Sound somewhere. Here's a source in Skagit County:
