I noticed that one of the brass screws on my TC Hawken has had the head pop off. It is one of the screws that holds the patch box on. There is not enough there to really get pliers on, so what is your best suggestion on how to remove it so that I can put a new screw in it's place?

Oh, I plan to put plain steel screws in there. Would that be prefereable, or should I go search out brass?

The best way I have found is to take the patch box off so you can get to the screw, then take a dremel tool and cut a slot in what is still there, then take a small screwdriver and turn it out, as far as the type of new screws I think it's personal preference.

You will have to remove the cap box first.
After it's off, you can try the above posts slotting method, but if that doesn't work, don't be afraid to use a sharp bladed knife or chisel to cut away some of the wood where the screw enters the stock.
Cut away enough to allow you to get ahold of the remaining screw body with some plyers or vice grips and unscrew it.

The wood you removed won't be noticed because the cap box will cover it up anyway. You can also use a slightly longer screw to make up for the wood you cut away.

As said above, getting the box off should give you some better grip with a pair of vise grips. Otherwise, you will need to drill it out. From there you can glue some wood sliver into the hole so that you can redrill the hole. Or use a longer or thicker screw.

Steel screws would be far more preferable. They are stronger and more correct. Your experience demonstrates why!

You can fire blue, rust brown or arsenal bright them. Just get rid of the coating somehow as it will be very noticeable.
