I recently purchased a "Indian trade musket" made by Pedersoli. I'm not sure if I can/should fix it myself of try to contact them Before I do anything or not. I'm not sure how big of an issue it is.

I'm not positive as this is my 1st flintlock but it seems something's not quite right with my lock. It seems the lock geometry is a bit off as the underside of the hammer actually strikes the back wall of the flash pan, at full rest. (with the hammer down).
I don't happen to have another Lott Lock assembly to compare it with but I have compared it with a few photo's and it looks to be either 1-2 mm low or the back edge of the flash pan needs filing down 1-2 mm. Before I go and do something irreversible I figured I'd ask the guys with a ***** load more experience than myself.

Is this something anyone's noticed on other Pedersoli's with the Lott lock? Is it something I should do other than file it down? I know it's contacting for sure due to the small indentation on the flash pan lip. This is my first flintlock so I didn't notice it when purchasing it. It took a while to figure out it was "a bit" off, after cleaning it a few times, I started noticing the dimple on the back of the flash pan. I'm not sure it's hurting anything, as it looks to be only slightly denting the flash pan, I just don't want to be trying to get the big buck and have the head of the hammer snap off or something. :curse:

There was a photo on the Pedersoli site, not real clear but it doesn't look like it's hitting on that musket. Unfortunately I don't have one of mine yet but will try to get one in the next day or two.

Any info you could share with me on this would be great.

I have a NWTG with a "LOTT" lock, gun was purchaced from Dixie Gun Works and consisted of "parts" from Curly ('cept the Pedersoli "LOTT" lock),

My bottom jaw has 3/16" of clearance from the top of the flash-rail at full stroke. This "LOTT" lock is the only one I've had any experience with, so I'm not sure jest "how much of an issue" yore's is either. If I was you, I'd think 'bout return'n the rifle 'cause the jaw ain't supposed to hit "anythin"!!

If you cain't return it for some reason (and "sumpthin" DID break), TOTW sells a "replacement lock" (stock# Lock-Tyron) to fit the same mortise as the Pedersoli "LOTT" lock.
