Everyone tells about their favorite lube.. Of course why not. We like to share what works for us. Well what was the worst lube you ever used? The lube that did not do the job, and the accuracy was terrible?

For me it has to be some crud that a friend of mine mixed up. It was made out of candle wax, vasoline, and some other stuff. He bragged about how well it worked. Well I decided to try it out, shooting one afternoon with him. His accuracy was a little worse then terrible using the stuff, mine I will not even comment, loading was next to impossible unless you swabbed with M.A.P., and that rifle never took so long to clean, getting that garbage out of the barrel in my life as that stuff. Needless to say that was a landfill lube for sure...

Interesting question...and I don't have any answers...I started out with Natural Lube 1000 on Day 1, and never needed to look at anything else

Depends on what type of wax he used, parafin or bees wax and vasoline is a petroleum product and I would not use that for a lube. Mine was some stuff I bought and gave me some fits. I will stay with bore butter, moose milk and spit, whichever I have the most of at the time.

I like the #1000, however in this high dry air the
stuff will only last about 2 shots. The 3rd shot
the ball will stick.
I use the castor oil, Murphy oil, alkahol, witch
hazel stuff that some one posted here and it works
great. I have to add a little more of the Murphy
for hot weather.
When I am down in the low country I use the #1000.

Does anyone remember T/C Maxi lube? Thats what I used for years and it did realy well for me. I don't know what matches up with it now. I am now using BB. :m2c:

Worst lube?

Pork chop grease, for sure!

I couldn't see the sights for the flys buzzing around and dogs followed me around the range all day!

Plus the salts that are in the pork grease will eat the rifling right out of your bore...

The worst patch lube I've ever used was a product called "Match Patch", Lubricant for X-Caliber's Muzzleloading Patches.

Don't know whats in it, looks like petroleum jelly and has a kind of Kerosene smell. Stuff caused lots of fouling for me and was'nt good as a cold weather lube at all. Don't know if anyone else has tried this stuff, but it just did'nt work for me. I still have a nearly full jar (4 oz.) if anyone wants it.

I purchased a jar of some kind of lube made for Cabela's when I bought a 1858 New Army revolver. It is white in color and hards as a rock. I never have really had any luck shooting it.

Today I was shooting some castor oil moosemilk. I took the pre-dried moosemilk patches and spritzed them before loading with additional moosemilk because it was a hot dry day here. The accuracy was outstanding and I shot well over 20 rounds out of the flintlock and never had to swab the barrel. This is the only lube for me from now on.
