I had one of those small, laser-cut looking flints on the GPR Hawken I built from a kit. I was shooting last weekend trying to find a good accurate hunting load so I could get the sights zeroed in and the flint was failing and even falling out. I had hammered a lead ball flat and made a wrap for the flint out of that some time ago and that helped, but last weekend it was 3 or 4 failed attempts to each successful ignition. I had a little flint hammer and knapped it sharp a couple of times, but it was getting really frustrating. I came home and found an old thread from 2011 on this topic here in the Flintlock section of the forums that was very helpful. I ordered a 12 pack of hand-knapped flints in the 3/4x3/4" size from trackofthewolf.com as was suggested by several members and some leather wraps. Wow! Huge difference, I can't wait to shoot her again! I didn't want to re-open such an old post, but I appreciate the suggestions and wanted to thank all of you contributors to the Flintlock SubForum!
