Hello all, I just recieved my lyman gpr kit today and had a few questions.I was looking at the instructions and it starts with draw filing the barrell to remove any tool marks from it.I looked over the barrell and didnt see any marks on it so is this still necessary, also what is the best way to remove the pins that hold the forend cap and entry pipe?As this is all new to me any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Brandon

Congrats on the new kit! I built two GPR percussion kits recently and I'll try to answer your questions. The barrels that came with my kits were fine and I simply degreased it inside and out and sanded the barrel flats with some fine grit wet to dry paper and a sanding block. This made for a dandy surface to accept the Plum Brown solution. The thin pins that hold the fore end cap on are stubborn rascals but just take a small finishing nail or paneling nail, flatten it's sharp point a bit with a file and use it to drive out the pins. Go slow, protect the wood and use a smallish hammer to tap, tap tap them out. I got them partially out and grabbed the end sticking out with some pliers and rotated them out the rest of the way. Have fun and be sure to install the four wedge key escutcheons with the counter bored sides outward. Don't ask how I know this. Have fun!

Thanks for the info i appreciate it.I have not decided on how to finish the parts.I was going to try and get some advice on that also. Thanks again Brandon

Be careful working on the barrel. Those dovetail cutouts will slice your hand open if you should slip while filing or sanding. Don't ask me how I know . . .
