I got an urge to build a flint GPR this summer. So I did.

All hand carved and burned.

Browned the barrel with bleach and heat.

Swapped in an L&R Lock to replace the somewhat crappy stock coil spring lock.

Made some new horns while I was at it...

That is a nice looking rifle.
Have never seen workings on a stock like that before. Different and nice looking.
Let us know how she shoots.

Reminds me a lot of some of the German or Austrian Jaeger rifles I've seen, though they run to oak leaves & acorns for their wood carving. Sort of the stuff I'd compare to Heine the Cuckoo Clock Carver!

It is beautiful artistic work. I've never seen a plains rifle decorated quite like that. :hmm: It's unique, that's for sure. You're never going to see another half stock plains rifle quite like it. Unique, though it may be, it is your rifle and if it pleases you, then it is right. Nice horns, too.

I am still dialing in loads for it.
I had to file ~1/8th of an inch off the front sight to get it on line at 70 yards (where the shade tree happens to be on the range...).

From a rest, it will put 7 shots into a 5 inch circle right now. Considering I built this rifle to be a deer getter, that should get the job done.

Off hand... well I need to practice my off hand shooting. For some reason I have a flinch off hand that I don't have on the rest. :td: Both eyes shut for a fraction of a second and the point of aim drops down. Its very frustrating. As soon as I go to the rest, or go to a sitting or kneeling position the flinch goes away.

The L&R lock is a HUGE improvement over the stock coil spring lock. I also drilled the touch hole liner to 5/64th, and that increased lock time considerably.
