The eyes, not being what they once were - I purchases Lyman receiver sight mod. 57 GPR - unfortunately the instructions do not address this particular rifle and I am seeking some guidance on installing them. I've put together my share of "kits" but never installed peep sights on a percussion rifle. It appears to me that there is some inletting to be done?
Thanks from POOR PEEPERS

I've put peeps on several rifles but they were Hawken style not Kentucky. They mounted on the tang and it usually fit to one existing hole (you mount on top of tang, no inletting) and sometimes both holes aligned and sometimes I had to drill a new hole. You need to make sure that the mounting height will work with your front sight and the peep base mates well with the tang (shimming OK.)

Suggest modifying the sight to fit the gun rather than modifying the gun. Old rule of thumb, leave the more expensive harder to replace complement alone, modifying the easier to replace component, in this case, the sight. Have installed Lyman 57s on TC Hawkens and Renegades. Modified the sight to fit the gun in every instance.
