M-1874 Sharps Sporting Rifle for review

First off I know this is not a muzzle-loader but might have interest here. Just acquired this M-1874 Sharp's Sporting rifle. 30" barrel in 45/70. Bore shows heavy use. Buffalo killer I'm sure. Sucker is HEAVY! Maybe 20 lbs. It's all brown with little left of the Sharp's stampings. However the matching S/N are crisp. No. 159017. It is in perfect mechanical condition. I know these were only made a few years. If anybody knows the year of Mfg. please let me know.

hi, very nice sharps. there is a dr. who owns the sharps factory records. cant think of his name right now[will check for you] dont recall what he charges but i believe it would be worth it for this fine old rifle. you get a letter also with the factory info.very nice find.

Hey guys, while we do allow Sharps rifle discussions, it's only if they are a cap fired model based on the 1865 or earlier design. A full cartridge rifle dated into the 1870's, even though the cartridge was first loaded with BP is not allowed. Similar situation with an 1873 SAA revolver in .44-40 or .45 Colt, etc.
