I just purchased an original harper's ferry 1842, and it appears to be in good shape, however I would like to confirm that it's safe to fire before taking it to the range. Would anyone be able to help point me towards a gunsmith, or give me a rundown on how to make sure it's safe to fire? I'm in Southern Indiana if that helps with gunsmith recommendations.

Call Bobby Hoyt 717-642-6696. Try him early, around 7:30. He is a master barrel smith and the go to guy for the N-SSA.
