Last night the wife found a slice of elk liver & 2 Italian Sausages that had a touch of freezer burn :(
Defrosted over night trimmed and :idunno: now what?

So in a fit of desperation I browned the sausage and a butternut squash (cubed).

In a pot I put a small can of whole tomatoes (crushed) half a jar of Red Guajillo Chile sauce,a can of corn, the browned squash & sausage.

then I Browned half an onion & the Elk liver (cubed), added them to the pot and simmered all while I made grits.

Shock of shock not only was it ok, I caught the wife sneaking a bowl while the grits were cooking.

Italian Sausages & elk liver in a Mexican sauces, over grits LOL I got lucky.

Most days, I'd rather be "lucky" than "good"! LOL
Different concoctions can be good....or not :idunno:

Of course it was the grits which made the dish, everything else was incidental.

Freezer burned sausage and liver with canned vegetables and hot sauce sounds wonderful -- call Le Cordon Bleu -- but how could you go and ruin that veritable feast with...

...grits? The cows not make it through the winter on the Gadhar estate's south 40!?

Lucky. Yeah...

looks good - right inventive stew seems to me.
the Italians have a form of grits 'polenta' that is used a good deal in the northern area.

NOW YOU'VE gone and done it!! We've been feeding Alden "Polenta" for years .....told him it was foo foo French oatmeal and he loved it.

Now you gone and told him it's Italian grits  he'll never eat another bit :(

I'm not that easily foo fooled. So I've bought a few India-made guns? I know Purina Chicken Chow when I see it!

Polenta ain't grits! :haha: That's akin to sayin' cornbread is baked grits!

Polenta is Eye-Talan, corn meal mush, with some flavor added. Grits is made from ground Hominy, while t'others be from ground, dried corn. Makes a big difference.

LOL :rotf:

I saw this thread with a shiver down my spine. I could just see Happy-Go-Lucky Alden turning in to the Increadable Hulk when he heard the "G" word.Big Green and having a curry blaster in each arm. :haha:
