The propellant was air. The projectile was a 12d nail. The victim.....my thumb :( I skimmed a shot with an air nailer down the side of a 2x6 I was holding, and it bounced off my thumb about a foot away. OUCH! Flogged it pretty good. Penetrated the skin no problem, so I knew it bounce off the bone, bloody mess. Luckily the shot lost enough energy in a foot, as a point blank shot would go through a bone as easily as a 2x4. But x-rays showed no bone damage, got a tetnus shot, antibiotics, and a swollen thumb. Shouldn't affect work. Guess it shows how one can become a little careless after doing something so unconciously routinely. Oh well, I'll just use the same excuse I use when shootin' the muzzleloader: THE SIGHTS MUSTA BEEN OFF ::

ouch....thats way i always use a hammer....sort of old school....even when i worked at a place that had them i never used them.................bob

Saw another lucky guy drive a 20 penny nail through his boot. Went right between his toes and nailed him to the roof. Good thing too, after the "shot" he fell backwards and almost fell off the two story roof. The nail held him up there, suffered a twisted ankle and a bad case of the shakes from looking almost straight down to the ground!

Good thing the nail wasn't a hollowpoint...

Hope you feel better soon...

Gametracker, should I send the forum nurse by to have a look at your thumb?

You are lucky. I knew a contractor who put a 16d nail right through his thumb.

When he went to the hospital the nurse asked him, "Why did you pound the nail all the way through?"

I was working a few years ago got a friend a job with me building custom homes. He got to whammin and a bammin with that nail gun. I told him he'd better slow down that thing was gonna get away from him.

He cockily said no problem pard I got this down. Shortly he bounced one right over into his hand and it had him down!

Nailed himself to a 2x4 I had to get him loose he never did heal up enough to come back to work guess he'd had enough of that!

I work in EMS, we had a 911 call a few years ago for a man with a nail in his leg. We get there in the ambulance and find this guy laying on the floor with an air gun framing nail in his knee cap, all the way in. I'll bet that hurt like crazy.

I can think of a time or two when a hammer has been less than cordial to my thumb as well!
Just picture this feller --> :redthumb: gritting his teeth!

You don't want to know!

Let me know when the young brunette nurse is back.

At least it wasn't your trigger finger, right?

As if that would stop me from shooting the ol' smokepole? I've got back-up fingers!
It's coming along good, just barely sore now, doesn't bother me much. Antibiotics are taking care of it.
Oh yeah, about the young forum nurse bein' gone on vacation...sorry 'bout that, I'll bring her back next week :blah:
