Rumor has it that some of those barrels are 2 pieces soldered or welded together, don’t shoot it.

These barrels were used on muskets sold 40 or 50 years ago. I'm sure there was no database to record any issues back then. I remember looking one over at a gun store east of Muskegon, MI on M46 back then. The round section may have been bottomed out where it was screwed into the octagon part but there was part of a thread on the round part still showing. Plainly a two-piece barrel. I passed. Perhaps perfectly safe when used with very moderate charges but there's always the "hold my beer" type who would insist on loading it as if hunting a T-Rex. Nowadays imported muzzleloaders have to have passed some form of proofing. That was not always the case, however.
