Hey
I dont see any discussion about the storage of black powder?
any of you have any magazines ( hope its spelled right) :( I have a friend that took a garbage can and put a clay pipe in the middle and around it put play sand. It was heavy but seemed to store his black powder ok. kept alot for a small cannon. Do any of you have other ways?? I dont keep that much around and dont think I need something like that.

I generally don't have more than 3 cans of 2FF, 3FF powder at any given time. I've always used an old .30 cal ammo steel box to store my powder in and keep that in a cool dry place. Been keeping powder that way for 30 years now.

There was a long discussion a little bit ago... Thread here that had a load (pun intended) of excellent ideas. I don't keep much powder at home, maybe one pound of pyrodex, and it's in a simple wooden cabinet in the basement. Caps are in my range box in the workshop.

I might have about 15 pounds of black powder and don't want it in the house. I keep mine in a 6 gallon plastic mud bucket (the stuff you use on sheet rock seams), with the lid closed. Bury it out under the deck. When I need a new can, I just shovel off the 2 or 3 inches of dirt down to the lid (with a piece of plastic over it for ease of dirt removal), pry off the lid and leave the bucket in the ground. The only problem is, the cats like to manure in this loose dirt when the rest is frozen!

hey
I like all of these ideas. The reason my friend did his that way was if it did ignight it would blow up and not out. In theory I suppose.

I keep about 15lbs in a locked wooden box stored in my yard building about 75' from the house. In the house, I generally have a part full can of 2ff, 3ff and 4ff, each.
