Something from my country.
Magnificent museum quality matched pair of early 18th century Germanic holster pistols. Overall length 20”. 12 ½” two-stage, tapered, silver-inlaid, .56 cal. rifled barrels are flared slightly (swamped) at the muzzle and have silver spider inlay front sights and excellent bores. Superb quality pinless locks are highly polished and elaborately embellished with deeply chiseled foliage and graphic battle scenes depicting combatants firing pistols from horseback. Exquisitely chiseled and fire-gilt bronze mounts include trigger guard bow with game scene showing a gentleman loading a flintlock sporting gun, Pommel with scenes of hunting dogs bringing down stag and wild boar, side plate with an elaborate battle scene including mounted combatants firing pistols, and wrist escutcheons surmounted by a crown and bearing the likeness of royalty of the day. Elaborately deep relief carved walnut full stocks with horn fore-end caps. Horn tipped ramrods are, perhaps, period replacements.

Yeah, but what kind of groups do you get at 25 metres? :rotf: :rotf:

It's good to be the king... or even a distant relative. VERY nice pieces. It's interesting - they probably cost as much in relative terms then as they do now.

I would buy them, but I cleaned out all of my pocket change just last week, so I guess I'll have to pass them by! Beautiful pieces! I didn't realize they were rifling pistols at that early date? And, from the appearance of the frizzens, it looks like they may have been fired, or at least dry-fired? Bet they're tack drivers!

I'm guessing you could not get a pair made of the same quality today for $29,000.

Even a pair of unadorned pistols of those proportions would be stunning.

Wow!

Tom

If I thought these pistols were righteous then I would be a whole lot more impressed with them.
