Here are a couple of views of my Jaeger after stripping and refinishing the wood. I used Minwax waterbase Rosewood on curly maple(with very little curl, get the best wood you can is my lesson learned). Someday I will get a new pre-carved stock in walnut which was the wood used on most jaegers. Right now I'm tired of messing with it, I've gotta get back to shooting so I'll be ready for the spring time blackpowder shoots!

Jaegermeister that is a beautiful gun! Can you tell us a little about it? Is it comfortable to shoot? It looks like it's got some "heft" to it, and a nice wide butt-plate to soak up recoil. And I see it's got a jag on the rod where it oughta be.

Is the sling "normal" for this type of gun? I don't normally see slings on flintlocks but then again I'm not an expert at these things!!

I like it!! :RO:

Thank you Shooey. Yes it is very comfortable to shoot. Everyone should shoulder a fat Jaeger at least once in a lifetime, there's nothing like it. This was built from a TOTW kit and is .61 cal. I made every mistake possible while building this kit and upon closer inspection this would be more evident. As far as the sling goes(hey birddog6, I removed the brass buckle) I have to say that just about all jaegers were fitted with slings. I don't know why slings weren't incorporated as often on more guns built in the colonies. How can you drag a deer and a rifle? As for the jag, well, I'm just too lazy to unscrew it after a shooting session and I like the looks of it whether it's PC or not.

Jagermeister
That is one fine looking flinter.
I am currently working on a northwest trade gun from track of the wolf. Its been a slow process. I hope to have it done by summer.
Meanwhile, happy shooting

Very nice, Jeagermeister. I have been thinking about the Pecatonica Jaeger kit, but it is set up for a 1-inch barrel, which seems too small to me, considering that a proper Jaeger ought to be at least .60 caliber ...

If I had to do it again I would consider Pecatonica if they would inlet for a swamped barrel which I think they will do for a small fee. I really like the trigger guard they offer and the fore stock seems to be pre shaped. I think the lock and triggers are R.E. Davis like TOTW offers. As a matter of fact all the rifle furniture on my kit was by Davis. Thanks for the compliment.

It's a beautilful rifle. I think you are being too hard on yourself. A flaw or 2 just means it's a handmade, one of a kind and not a factory gun.

Sir,
Would the TOTW Jager be difficult for someone has built a couple of kits from Dixie Gun Works(Brown Bess and a Hawken)? I do have access to a wood working shop on the Post where I am stationed.

If I can do it, you can do it. The result will be something you will take pride in. An instant family heirloom. Sir, you would not be sorry about this project but it takes a lot of work and patience but you could probably use a diversion. I've just refinished my Jaeger (for the third time) to bring out the curl better. Tonight I made a horn tip for my ram rod and I can even screw my loading/cleaning jad to it.
