I first saw pictures of the rather famous 'Adam and Eve' staghorn flasks and really like the idea of carving the horn. I happened upon pics shown below of this magnificent work.....of course, it has a $14,000+ price tag! The silver pouring mechanism is very unusual, must be a sort of crescent, or moon shaped piece the levers outward. Curious if you gents have any ides how to build a fitting like this. Enclosed, also, is a piece of horn I carved...or am carving, and would love to make a fitting similar!

Think I came up with a way to do this. Haven't figured how to include a spring to keep the 'slide valve' closed.

i have a few photos that might just help you with your flask but can not seem to post on forum will e mail you them if you like

The fitting has some sililarities to the Hawksley design. If Grennmountainboy's (no relation)photos don't help, I'll look into taking mine apart. TOW may still sell the Hawksley valve.

Thanks for the info, been away a few days. I'll check the valve you're referring to, don't expect you to disassemble yours! I'd like to do this in silver, if possible. I have a few old silver coins from S. America I saved. Coins are just about the right size for my horn. I think the horn type flasks are more 'pre-flintlock' in style. The valve may, or may not, be prototypical of pre-seventeenth Century, but cool I think!

You were dead on! TOW does list the valve assembly but out of stock. It might might be possible to silver plate one....Hhmmmmm. Thanks, Bill!
