Here is a video on making lead balls , I met diss fellow at maxwell ks a few years back.

Ok. I'm seeing nothing. Was this a pretend friend? Or maybe my computer finally took a #2.

That's the way to make RB's. Cook up some beans and lead at the same time.

Ahhhh...lead and beans. That's good eating.

Better yet, cook them beans in the lead pot, save on lugging that extra pot around. That's what our great granpappys woulda done.

Had a little computer trouble, finally got around to watching it.

I like the ladle tied to a stick. Beats carrying a long handled ladle around with you.

One time in my twenties, I didn't have access to a lead pot, so I cast a bunch of balls using my wood stove in my living room, much like he's doing. I had a bigger ladle, so I could pour faster than he did, but it was still very much slower than using a a lead pot. I imagine your typical mountain man only had to cast a few balls a week. Bill

Pretty good video, huh? I am trying to decide if I want one of those molds, they're pretty easy to get. Too many wants and too little money. :idunno:

I've always wanted to make my own lead balls (I reload modern stuff)... Its very self reliant that you make your own ammunition (lead ball in this case).. And very cool.

However I did read that if you plan on having kids you should wait on the making your own. I'll take that advice and let the more experienced crowd make the lead balls, I'll catch up in due time!

Yea I started out casting balls on a coleman stove using a cast iron skillet from the discount store and a home made left hand dipper. Used it for years actually, got stupid once and used the kitchen stove, I thought I could keep all the molten lead in the pan, but oh was I wrong!! That prompted me to buy an electric pot and I love it!
