Yeah, I do make my own wads. What gauge are you looking for? You can get a hole punch from Harbor Freight and punch out your own. Example: for 20 ga. wads purchase a 5/8" punch.

I get the F-26 Industrial Felt on Amazon pick how thick you want. Ritz cracker box cards for over powder or shot.

Old felt hats from the thrift store make pretty good wads for revolvers but would the same material be suitable for shotguns?

They are so cheap I always have bought them.
This is where I got mine: Duro-Felt Products. I don’t see the scrap I ordered listed but they show several “close outs”. I soak it in a melted 50/50 mix of bees wax and Crisco and then punch as needed. I punch cardboard from shotgun shell boxes.

I have a bunch of oil tanned leather hanging around, pieces that are too big to throw away, and too little to do anything with. So I make over powder wads from these scraps. For over shot wads, I just wad up strips of paper napkins that I scam from my favorite coffee shop.

A small order from Duro-Felt plus plenty of old leather/felt scraps I have laid by are plenty for the modest amount of smoothbore shooting I do. With two different sets of punches I can punch out more card wads than I really need. Most of the stuff can usually be found around the house.
