i went 2 a antique mall 2 day and there in a gun case was a mallory 32 cal squirrel rifle. it had a high combed fancy maple stock and iron lock on it. it was is very very exellent condition.the price tag on it was 495 bucks. is it a good deal ??? or not? thanks ss.

Look on the barrel to see if it says OLNEY TEXAS...if so the gun was an early one and current parts will not fit...if it does not say Olney then it is a DEER CREEK gun and their parts will fit.
Dont forget to look down the bore ( kinda hard to do with a .32) or at least run a dry patch down to see if you can feel if the bore is crudded up.... and also check the lock spring strenght....alot have week springs, but will still pop a cap,
that price is normal....thats also what they sold for NEW, But since they are no longer produce they are commanding these prices once again....
Post lome photos if you are lucky enough to bring it home with you....they are great shooters...
You didnt mention if the frame was Brass or Iron....
where does a lad your age get 500 bucks?

This would be at the upper limit for an Olney, Texas made rifle in fine shape. Maybe you can talk them down a little? The later stuff isn't quite as good and isn't worth as much.

"where does a lad your age get 500 bucks?"

Thats what I was wondering, course I wish thats what my son looked for when he had that much money on him!

it is iron and im not going 2 buy it sense its oviously not a steal of a deal lol. well i work 8-10 hour days 5 days a week all summer at my grandpas buisness. last summer i spend 1600 on guns. one was a custom made 32 flinter for 850 and the other was a super powerful 22 cal pellet gun for 700 lol. the rest of the money went 2 supplies for both guns. and no i dont have 500 at the moment, i owe my dad 600 for the 12 gauge double barrel navy arms national turkey federation 10 year anniversity muzzleloader i got a couple months ago lol lol

It's great to hear you are working...I started at 14....but my earned $$$ was only alowed to be used for Bluejeans and food....times were differnt back in the 60's.
If you dont pick up Mowrey..you might regret it..you dont see them for sale very often at all !
I would try to talk the seller down a bit on the price...I'd offer $325 cash...course I Love the Mowrey and have a rack full of em,,,even the 12 guage shotgun which is rare a Hens Teeth.

Not a bad price for a brass frame from Olney...
but you cant mix and match the old parts from Olney guns with the new parts from Deer Creek.
If something other than the mainspring goes bad in the lock ALL the parts have to be replaced,,,
its True...I talked to THE MAN.

I don't own a Mowrey, but my dad has one. If I remember correctly, there's really not much to the lock. If a spring broke, one could be made pretty easily with a piece of spring steel and a file. Any of the other parts could be welded or braised if broken.

well guys i didnt get it. i cant afford it right now. and i was on vacation when i saw it. but thanks for the help guys.
