I just received this email from a friend down in the area. Emery

Good Morning,

Many of you have probably heard the news that last night the commissioners voted to allow Mansker’s Station to stay open using city funds for at least another fiscal year. Thank you to everyone involved in this effort on any level.

We will be reopen to the public on Wednesday, July 2. As you can imagine there are numerous decisions to be made, so we will be working towards operating under a reduced budget for this year and everything that involves.

We will still not be having a July 4 Encampment. Those who wish to come out for a picnic, meeting, etc. of course may, but the Welcome Center, Fort, or Bowen House will not be open and you cannot camp overnight in the park.

Right now there are several organizations forming/reemerging in the spirit of “Saving Mansker’s Station” since we have been instructed by commissioners to have a plan submitted by March 2009 on how the site can operate without our regular budget. I am encouraging all individuals involved to work together in this effort. I was briefly informed of two meetings last night, one this Sunday at the Welcome Center and another on July 15 at another location. I believe a single meeting with all interested parties would be most beneficial so that everyone is on the same page with their thoughts and the best course of action can be determined.

Best Wishes,
