Happy St. Pat's Day!

To help everyone get ready to eat corned beef and cabbage on March 17 we are shooting a shamrock target for March.

The usual three categories: rifle, smoothbore, (smoothbore must not be equipped with rear sight - front sight/bead only) or handgun

Two ways to shoot: Offhand from 25 yards with rifle or smoothbore or 15 yards with handgun.
Bench rest/supported from 25 yards with rifle or smoothbore or 15 yards with handgun

Mark your targets as either rifle or smoothbore or handgun and either offhand or benchrest/supported.

9 shots for score - 3 shots per shamrock
Hit the center bull for 10 points. Hits anywhere else in the shamrock (includign stem) count 5 points. Only 3 shots per shamrock will count - extra shots mean you throw away the highest scoring shot(s)
Ball must be half way into the target area to score points. Maximum score is 90 pts.

Feel free to use a marker to make the outline a little thicker on the inside of the drawing or color in the shamrock body to make it more visible. I don't like to make the targets too dense as it will use up a lot of ink/toner.

Shoot as many times as you wish but please only post one target per category with pictures of target (and gear, if possible - we love to see everyone's equipment and load data!) Post jpg or pdf formats. Please score your own targets and write your score on the target along with information on the load you used. I will check scores and it helps me if you will draw a line to each hole in the target and write your points for each shot - makes it easier for me to check the targets.

Prize is same as always - bragging rights on the forum!
I will be posting February results this week.

All, I went back to the indoor range here in FL today to see if the luck o' the Irish would help me. In short, it did, but with a .22cal. target pistol (Ruger Govt. Model). The score was 80 (after 5 other targets, which weren't that good). Here's a photo of it, even though it's not for record.

I have finally had an opportunity to print out some of the targets to be able to participate in the shooting competition this month.

My problem in the past has been I've never had time to get to a computer with a printer.

If there's anyone who's having this issue and would like to participate please PM me with an address and I will mail you one of the targets I printed out a handful of them specifically to mail to other members who would like to participate but cannot print out targets.

So if you need a Target please just ask and I'll be happy to send you one of these.

Did a few practice rounds on a bullseye at 30 yards so I thought I was already. Winds blowing about 15 MPH today and gusting I guess I shouldn't have tried it yet

Threw an all right group on the right and the left one but they were both so low I didn't even hit the paper.

Thanks again to Gary for calling the shot again. Much appreciated, even though I forget to give thanks sometimes.

Got a chance to shoot this one yesterday. Was helping a buddy out with some maintenance at his ranch, wind was crazy, gusting to 35 mph from about 10 o'clock, trying to get a steady rest atop a fence post was dicey at best but it is what it is.
This was an experimental load with a homebrew lube and reduced powder charge from my normal 80 gr of 3F hunting load in the Allen FA Santa Fe Hawken.
Was going to try it again with more powder but ran out of good shooting light.
I had 2 shots through the same hole on the center shamrock, had to look that one over real close.
One high shot shot on the left clover went off before I was ready due to not being accustom to the super light set trigger which I don't normally use when hunting.
I probably need to adjust on that.
Anyway, it looks like a 45 score to me.
Really enjoy shooting these and many thanks to Gary for putting this on!!!

finally got around to shooting this months shamrocks. used the .54 i built from a local birch plank, a GM barrel, Doc Haddaway lock. single set trigger. that rifle can shoot circles around me with someone that can shoot behind it! it is as plain as can be but shoots so well i end up grinning while shooting it.

I score it 50. close on some but not sure.

Nice shooting deerstalkert! I score as a 50 - is that offhand or bench? And that's a nice looking rifle!
sorry Gary, it was rested. i can no longer hold a rifle for off hand. MS sucks.
thanks for the comment on the rifle. i built it out of bits and pieces as a full length Hawken ish.
i got the plank from my neighbor. he had them milled for rustic stair treads from Birch off my place 10 years ago.
it shoots so much better than me.
