I know most matchcord is cotton rope soaked in saltpeter then dried. I'm just wondering were can you buy it? I have not found any matchcord for sale and the only sites I have seen for saltpeter are charging about 6 dollar per pound and you have to buy in bulk so no less than 5 pounds. I really don't want to buy that much.

Have you tried Syke's Sutlery? I know that they were selling both cotton and hemp slowmatch the last time I visited their website.

You might ask around the better equipped pharmacies. Most of them have saltpeter in 1/2 lb containers. Also, anywhere that sells sausage making supplies has it, usually in 1lb lots.

I know Gordon's stump remover is saltpeter.

Give it a good rinse with tapwater, then let it dissolve in water.

I bought some bullets for a balance so I have found that about two 71 grain bullets weight to about one pint of water makes a fairly fast slow match.

For the rope I picked up some natural jute cord, of 3/16" diameter.

This matchcord works much better than any stuff I ever bought before.
