Yep, it's already time for another of Wulf's creations! Here's a matchlock with an automatic opening pan cover:

These are not that simple. This one has a self opening pan cover and not the typical two piece lock and pan..

Wulf- I like the lines on the stock. Do you know the overall weight? I'd like to see the inside of the lock if you've got a pic.

I got a few more pictures, on the way, including the inside of the lock and a closeup of the muzzle end, but there is some issue in the transfer. Here's another full side shot and some details:

Total length 54" The barrel is 38" I cut off 10 off the 48 because it was just too heavy and made the Arquebusier with that 10" piece of barrel.

Now that's how it's done!!!! Looks like a professional job. :applause:
Exactly why I had to start posting images for Wulf. I can't let his talent go unseen by this board.

As promised, here's the other shots:

Widget,
I was trying to understand how it works by studying the pic. A catch spring holds the cover in the open position, so I am assuming that it has a release on the outside. Then it looks like the link on the dog shaft or the front of the sear bar pushes down on the lower spur on the cover toggle and opens the pan. Does the spur get pushed down far enough to engage the catch spring? That would be handy.
Anyway you look at it, it looks like a really loooooong pull on the trigger to get it all there. Perhaps Wulf could explain this to us. I know I want to know. :surrender:

I don't really know the answer, but it looks like it's in a post-firing position in the picture, as the pan cover is open, but the sear bar isn't engaged. If the pan cover were closed, the spur on the cover toggle would be rotated up, making contact much sooner than it appears from the open position, making the trigger pull not be as long as it may appear. Of course, this is just a guess. I don't know how the spring relates to the pan cover mechanism, or how it gets released (maybe manual closing with the spring to keep it open after firing). I'm sure Wulf will clarify, and it will seem obvious afterward.

Wulf has some extraordinary skills!

I'm always amazed at the level of detail he puts into his work.

That's a beauty!
I'd like to have one built by Wulf.
Any way to get a hold of him? I'm in Phoenix area.
Thank you!!!

He's on here. His user name is...wait for it...wulf.

Send him a pm or an email if you like. I don't know how interested in building for other people he is. I think most of his building is for himself or friends, but it never hurts to ask (besides, I'm always happy to see what he's made - I know he's working on a flintlock pistol right now).

OK funny guy :haha:
I did send a PM and have not heard back yet.
I'm the best type of friend to have:
One with money to spend on what he makes!
Nice musket, you're a lucky guy!

It's not mine, I only help him out by posting his pictures. I don't have any other means of contact for him other than pm and email, but he does show up on here regularly. I'd expect him to respond to you soon, though if he doesn't, I'd be happy to give him a heads up that you're trying to get a hold of him.
