Matchlock lock coming along.

Got my lock partially completed tonight. I know what people are going to say, "oh my God, he's using a nylock nut to hold the lever on". Yes, I am, and I've also got an 8-32 hex screw putting tension on the pivot point of the cock. I fully realize this is not historically correct, and I don't care. This is going to be hidden on the inside of this gun, and noone is going to see it, therefore it doesn't concern me. It'll look fairly accurate on the outside, and that's all I care about. Im not a purist, so hold those comments please.

Hey, I'm working with what I have. It's not as if these rifle shoppe kits come with any form of instructions, or all the parts to make them function. It will work though by the time I'm done building it.

Thanks. I'm flying partially blind on this lock as, A I've never built a matchlock before, and B. Some of what's included in the kit are useless items. They included what appears to be a flat spring which from my research is what puts tension on the lever that returns the cock to battery. However it's not spring steel so I can't use it. I'm getting there though.

Ahhhhhh. you just found the SECRET to working from a TRS kit. The one who buys that kit needs to convert that 'flat spring' from cast steel to become a true spring! Convert = shape, polish, harden and temper et al.

Well, I'll look into that. If it's too much of a chore, I'll be replacing that part with a ready made spring.
