Hello,
I've bought a used Armi San Marco .69 smoothbore cavallery flintlock pistol.
Can annyone tell me the max powder charge for this pistol?
Pedersoli list a 25 gr charge as max for their pistol but the well respected German gun magazine Visier has tested similar pistols with a 70 gr charge, the same as a .69 musket.

:rotf: :rotf: 70 GRAINS YOU SAY?
around 40 grains that thing will want to jump outta yer hand....The old Black Powder catalogue I have from the 70"s says 40 grains 2FF which would translate to 30 grains 3 FFF.
That big ball will generate alot of pressure with these loads and the gun will recoil...

They use a 75 gr load of Wasag 1, a German powder i'm not familiar with.
For the well known Swiss CH2 powder they use a 50 gr max load.

Edit: just looked up the Pedersoli data: 25gr recommended an 35gr max. I think i'm gonna stick with this.

I think that's wise; otherwise you will be wasting a lot of powder with each shot, not to mention recoil would be excessive.

35 grains in a .60 pistol is about all the fun that I can stand. I have tried 50 grains but there wasn't any point to it so I dialed it back to 35.

Many Klatch

:v Usually with a pistol I take the calibre divide in half and that would IMHO make a safe start load.Even that may sound a bit aggressive but for a more conservative starting point you may choose your first shot with about 5gr.less, than depending on your perceived recoil adjust from there.

40 grains, leveled and a two hand hold...
