I have a hard gun case I picked up to ship it in. Nothing fancy, just a simple case but it sweetens the deal. Kept the large cardboard box it came in so when I do ship it the thing isn't obvious a gun case.

I have been working on clearing the nipple and fire channel, I have gotten well into it but not all the way clear yet. If I do clear it it will be operable.

I still have this old rifle, I now have a hard case I will send it in.
Again I can not believe the really good condition this old gun is in. A good set of tools and 15-30 minutes fiddling with the fire port and you have a functional Maynard on your hands. I do not have a good set of tools or the confidence in my skills to do the work myself. Too afraid of messing up a piece of history.

I didn't even think of that.
You are probably right. And I am willing to wait. Long as it doesn't sell I have a Maynard Model 2 in my safe and that is pretty spiffy.

I got the fire channel clear!
I had a couple smart ideas in a row. First I made a homemade musket cap out of tinfoil and the guts from 3 CCI #11's and popped the cap. Nice bang. Then I went at the fire port with WD40 and a needle then with butane.
After futzing with it for 20 more minutes I got a clear blast of butane through the thing.
So that means if you have some Maynard ammo and some musket caps on hand....this gun could shoot right now!

Now I am not going to increase the price, for now.
Once I get some spare coinage I will be ordering a Maynard tool, Musket caps and Maynard ammo. If that happens, then I am pulling this add and will relist it after a couple weeks with a higher price tag.

serial # 8XXX, so it likely saw service

locks up tight as a drum, and the lock and trigger is firm and tight
honestly the condition of this 155+ year weapon is amazing

Museum quality, with 2 extra barrels. The barrels had the levers attached, too.
But at $10K, I had to leave it there.

Sorry for the slight hijack, I just get excited regarding things that caught my attention, and I know you're cool with folks like me.

I hope you can find a way to keep yours. It's a cool weapon, and the CW use makes me wonder where it was used, and by whom.

I don't mind at all. I know engagement on a post increases chances of sale.
Also I don't agree with the curmudgeonly types that get upset over engagement.

That Maynard you saw must have been a great piece to warrant such a big price tag. Were the spare barrels different calibers?

I think they were, but I'm not positive.

The shop didn't have any ammo, so that previous post with the ammo photo was a help.

An uncle of mine had one and as a teenager it was a fun to shoot and remember it being more accurate than I would have thought. Still have some of the ammo from when we shot it. He gave the gun to his son, and when I asked my cousin about it he said his wife would not allow guns in the house so he sold it to a pawn shop. He was quite proud that he got enough out of it for a nice dinner…..
