I was reading an article about a fella that makes his own. You simply file "u"'s and "V"'s into the ends of drill rod, harden it and there you have it. The operator then uses the marking tools just like brands on cattle. Alot of folks think brands are like one chunk of iron that you heat up. Sometimes they are but often they are made up of several irons used in combination.
Just a suggestion of course, I use a engraving tool to engrave the image I use. My other buddy uses a dremel to grind in his initials in cursive. Still others use a 5v power supply and a Q-tip to etch the steel.
Anyway, there's my thoughts.
