Got a question.

A friend's son just bought a musket from Military Heritage Arms a.k.a. The Discriminating General. I asked him if that gun was made in India and he said that they told him it was made in Montreal, Canada. I'm doubting it.

True or false. ?

Dont they come without the touch hole drilled?
If a Canadian firm mass produced muskets it would be wonderfull.

Of all the Indian repro dealers....they have to be at the bottom of the list! Fit and finish is poor and the hardening of the lock parts is non existent...good luck with it...

This is the part that annoys me:

they told him it was made in Montreal, The bums lied to him.

He's a young fellow, just back from Afganastan a few months ago. He didn't know any better than to believe them. The price is what attracted him... like a moth to the flames.

It is being shipped without a touch hole, that is why he called me, to get a vent liner for it. I told him to be SURE it functions/sparks before making any modifications or he wouldn't be able to send it back.

Now I am a normal defender of the Indian made muskets, but there is one maker in particular that needs to be avoided, this importer, it seems shady because they will not tell you where they import them from, they guard that info to the death it seems, to keep the other importers from finding out where to get them..., But I have the name of the one maker to be avoided on my other PC. you can find it by removing the barrel, or looking at the fit and finish! as it is the most horrible with no shame or any attempt to even try to make parts fit. If by luck they do, you win, it is by the grace of the importer, they take the best THEY receive , and send them out to buyers. Most of the other importers of the Indian muskets will not by from this maker of muskets, and they are MVTC and Loyalist Arms. They both use a different maker, and the quality is much better, although, not to open another can of worm, we all here will not agree. But hands down light years ahead of the maker that your friend got his from.

I agree with Tiger, he may get lucky and get a nice workable one, but dont hold your breath. MVTC and Loyalist Arms,Veteranarms and Flintlockrepair are the most reputable sellers. They sell fire-able Muskets and stand behind what they sell. There is an on going debate about these guns. I will not go into that. Do a search and you will do alot of reading about the Indian Musket.Pro's and Con's.
The only thing I like about Military Heritage Arms. They have a nice web site with interesting historical reading.
Just would not buy from them.
I hope he has good luck with it. Hate to see a returning Vet getting swindled out of his very hard earned money.

Shoot any Indian made musket at your own risk, and let me know when you are going to fire it, so I can move away from you.
None of the Indian made muskets have had any kind of pooving, they are sold as display replicas only. They will explode even when reenactors fire blanks in them.

I only shoot guns with prooved bbls. When they are sold with no touch hole that should tell you something. When knowledgable people have appraoched the Indian Mfgs at trade shows and ask them about prooving, the Indians walk away, and will not discuss prooving, or saftey, of their products.

Shoot at your own risk.
