I know I seen a topic on lubing with mineral oil but can't seem to find it. I inquired a bottle of it and thought rather than throw it out, I should use it.I use Bee's wax & Olive oil now.It would be a good patch lube I would think? Your comments will be apreciated.
Thank you

If you are using beeswax and olive oil now, probably the best all around, why would you want to change to something unproven? :v

I wouldn't use mineral oil as a patch lube. I haven't tried it but I suspect you would just gunk things up very quickly. There are cheaper things that work just fine, including spit.

You are right about changing, but I just hate to throw things out. :)

Ok I found this info: :hmm:
(Mineral oil or liquid petrolatum is a by-product in the distillation of petroleum to produce gasoline. It is a transparent, colorless oil composed mainly of alkanes (typically 15 to 40 carbons) and cyclic paraffins, related to white petrolatum. Mineral oil is a substance of relatively low value, and it is produced in very large quantities. Mineral oil is available in light and heavy grades, and can often be found in drug stores.)

Now I read that Ballistol is used for BP shooting and it is suppose to be mainly mineral oil. Maybe I will use it for a lotion for dry hands. :) Thanks guys

 Mineral oil can also be used if your own personal vent system is plugged up. Just stay near a disposal unit :blah:

Ballistol/Murphys Soap Oil and water make a bril patch lube. Ballistol on its own is great for cuts and sore hands.

My plumbing is not plugged up, but it does say you can use it for that also.

I use mineral oil all over and in my guns after I have cleaned them. I haven't had any problems with rust at all. I like it because it has little or no smell. Mineral oil also makes a very effective cough medicine. Take 1 tablespoon and you will be afraid to cough. :shocked2: :haha:

I'm with Bimbo I use mineral oil all over my guns after I clean them. I've never had a problem with rust. As for a patch lube I've tried it and it does tend to foul rather quickly, stick with the olive oil and bee's wax I'm a firm believer in natural lubes.

I've found that mineral oil/Baby oil works well in Betty Lamps. It does smoke up the inside of a lantern though.

Many Klatch
