Saw another post about dumping BP on the grass and it made me wonder...
If you had a can of powder that didn't perform as well as you expected, let's say a can of 2F Elephant since that's what seems to be the powder nobody wants, could it be mixed in with a can of similar powder by another manufacturer like Goex?
Would mixing brands be "safe"? Would it make the Elephant better or just make the Goex worse? Would the mixed/cut powder be up to snuff? How 'bout 1 Elephant:2 Goex? 3 Goex? Anybody ever try it? Seems like a better way to go than fertilizing the lawn... :hmm:

Got any rose bushes you can use that Pachyderm poop on? Seriously, i wouldn't mix it with any other powder. Not sure that it would be unsafe, but why ruin good powder.

If I was going to do that, I would mix it 25% other to 75% Goex, just to keep the odds in my favor of the better powder...

That is, IF I was going to do that...

I understand where you are coming from, to dump it out would be throwing money away, my frugal side says to salvage what you can, it's kind of like adding bread-crumbs to meatloaf to make it go further... :hmm:

Isn't bad black powder better still than black powder subsitutes?
:hmm:

:hmm: I agree why ruin a good can of powder to dispose of a bad one? I would use the bad powder to practice with. Unless the powder were really bad such as powder that had gotten wet.

...bought 2 cans elephant dung...colossal  mistake...have been mixing it into my goex, works fine in the flintlock...

I was one who had a bad lot of Elephant 3F...very poor quality...delayed igniution and the worse fouling I've ever seen...wouldn't waste my time, patches, balls, or ruin a good can of Goex by mixing the garbage I had with it.

By contrast, BP subs like Pyrodex work great over a 20grn igniter charge of Goex in a Flintlock...an excellent way to use up some BP substitute powder you might have on hand...it's consistent, accurate, clean, etc.

It's not something I do for hunting but it's easy to do at the range...I use 35mm film canisters and premeasure 50 Goex 20grn charges in one set, and 50 Pyrodex 40/50/60/grn charges in another set...take them to the range in separate, marked ziploc bags and make smoke!

I wasn't really thinking of a duplex type load. Just mixing and calling it good. Might be a better way to do the charge stacking way. :hmm:
I have @ 3/4 of a can of Elephant 2F that a buddy gave me. It ignites OK, but leaves way more fouling than Goex.
Maybe if I put in 60g Goex topped off with 20g Elephant the fire from the Goex would burn the Elephant better and the fouling wouldn't be as bad?
I guess I'll have to give it a try.

By the way, my buddy also gave me a can of 3F Elephant. My .32 Crockett loves the stuff. Works great and barely any fouling at all. Go figger.

Had a mostly full can of RS that was mostly worthless and a almost new can of P that was pretty good. Traded 'em for one of them evil unmentionable type 12 ga. shotguns. Figger I can trade or sell it later. Put the proceeds toward a Kentucky flinter?
