1-Oil
5 or 6 or 7 Water. (experimenting is due here)
Don't squeeze the mix out of the cloth too much.
The idea is to leave the fabric wet and let the water evaporate.

I use a Table Spoon as a measure, then run the fabric lightly between my fingers to remove the excess.

I lay foil or Sahran Wrap out flat and lay the fabric on that, a non-porous surface is needed.

Ya.
If you do it backwards the stuff will instantly boil sending a shower of the nasty fluid in all directions. If it gets on you it will instantly start eating holes in you and your cloths and anything else it gets on......

Oh...Wait a minute.

You guys aren't talking about adding sulfuric acid to water are you?

OK. I take back everything I said. :(

Oil into water is what the bottle says

Now, there is an idea! Read the instructions.

:haha: :haha:

Almost did that while making AQ once. Switched to ferric nitrate crystals.

If you want to use a water soluble oil, my personal recommendation is Ballistol.

Nope, I knew before I'd try that it'd be way too slick/slippery for my use.

Before I tried the dry lube patch system I was using Ox-Yoke prelube, BoreButter an that Natural 1000 stuff,
While you'll hear all the yadda-yadda about how great that shoots and how They never have to clean the bore and,,,,
I never got the full accuracy out of guns that I wanted. Found Dutch and his system and moved ten steps ahead of most shooters.
Straight Ballistol will indeed work and even Ballistol mixed in any of several lube recipes, but for me most just don't wring out the best from a rifle. :v

I understand. A man's got to shoot what his rifle wants. Dutch's accuracy system is spot on.

Have. You ever tried just the oil and no water?

Art, it's pretty thick stuff and would be a pain to work with IMO. Might be worth a try though. Actually, using the water/oil mix does result in using the oil straight. The rate of mix of water and oil determines how much is left behind on the patch material after the water evaporates. My typical mix has been the 1/7 ratio and that is what I just mixed up a few minutes ago.

My NAPA oil pre-dates the "change" they made to the recipe so can still shoot it for a while. Have not used the dry patches for quite a few years but will go back to it for my match shooting this summer. It's not a bad deal for hunting either. Just load in a block like you would any other patched ball or cut it at the muzzle in the field.
