Been some discussion of upgrading these especially when it comes to the much debated and questionable addition of the factory grease hole. To this end i thought some might like to see my alternatives so i finally dug this out of storage. Acquired long ago when Dixie was closing them out some time nearly 40 years ago!! Was upgraded with iron bean style patch box and fore end cap. Its less than serial #250 and with the thin 14/16 .50 barrel. Came with the interchangeable percussion lock. So long ago i cannot remeber if i or someone else added the box and cap but i like it and maybe give others an idea. FWIW I asked one of the Kirkland clan (hunter ?) why the grease hole and he said it was on the original pattern rifle.
