Has anyone ever owned a Monarch Muzzle loader, Hawkens. I have the opertunity to pick up a stock and barrels but no lock or trigger assembly and wounder if other company's parts would fit. Any help would be great.

hi there 2FF, I have a Monarch that a friend gave me. He found it in his storage barn all rusted over after leaving it there after forgetting it. He was going to throw it away and then thought to ask if I wanted it. It is in pitiful condition, but I can't imagine that with a enough tender loving care it wouldn't be able to shoot again. I am going to make a project of it and see what I can do. It's nothing fancy, and the door to the patch box is broken off. Also the Hammer is bent, and then there is the rust! I have not thoroughly checked yet, but have been told that some parts may be available through online sources. This is actually my first post here since I just joined. Oh by the way, it appears to be 50 cal.

Hey Bunkysdad, I am new to the forum as well and have the oppertunity to purchase a monarch barrel, stock and some small parts. What I would need is the entire lock and trigger. If there is a way of knowing if the parts are similar to say a thompson center or traditions rifle it might be esier to find and put a rifle together.

I don't know about Monarch muzzle loaders, I've never heard of them, but you might be able to find locks, trigger assemblies and other parts that will come close from Track of the Wolf, Dixie and other parts suppliers. If you are a little bit handy with tools I'm sure you can get this gun to work again. There are other members here that have scavenged parts from other guns, put them together and made some fine looking and shooting guns. I've built three muzzle loaders from scratch myself. I know this can be done.

Back in the '70's and '80's there were a lot of Importers who called themselves by a lot of different names.

They would contract with a Foreign company to produce their guns and to mark their companies name on the barrel.

Most of these (but not all) contracted with Ardesa in Spain who made guns for CVA.

If the barrel was made in Spain there is an excellent chance that Ardesa was the maker.

If Ardesa made the gun, many of the CVA gun parts would work as a replacement if needed.

Deer Creek (not the one in Florida) bought many CVA sidelock parts and sells them. Off hand, I don't know how to contact them but I know many of our members do.

If your gun is Spanish, post it here and I'm sure they will chime in with the current address and phone number of Deer Creek (who doesn't have a web site).
