entry :) :
1655 Swedes attacked Poland and captured almost all country. The last bastion was the monastery in Czestochowa. Swedes tryed to capture the monastery too, but without enthusiasm. It was for them only the next little way-point to total victory.
But there was very bitter surprise. Most of monks were former soldiers of fortune, excellent familiar with every kind of weapon. Walls and towers of the monastry were the real challenge even for haevy mortars. Most important element of the battle were duels of cannoners. Polish cannoners were very accurate. In Christmas 1655, they hited the largest Swedish siege-cannon. There was terrible explosion (cannon was loaded), meny dead, and the panic in the Swedish camp. Every body talked there about "spells of papists". Offcourse Poles talked about the help of Holly Mother. It was the time of religious wars in Europe. So, two days later Swedish troops gone away. Swedish commander, collonel Mueller died short time after this battle. Like meny other military losers :) he had real obsession about lost battle of Czestochowa. Every little defeat was figured by him as the "punishment of God". He died soon in deep depresion.
This battle broken the Swedish army and did let polish partisans to organize meny new troops and win the war.

Every year in may reenactors togeher with monks act the Battle of Czestochowa.
Swedes are ready :)
