It's all the same, and everyone is different.
Meaning that all of the names you mention are generic names/terms for any mix of any of several things that turn white that folks will then use as patch lube or cleaning.

What I'm saying is there are hundreds of "recipies" all being called the same thing and none of which is the true recipie for anything specific. There isn't an "original" that can be made and not called anything the mixer wants to call it.

Moose Milk, Moose Juice, Moose snot, Mule Snot, Mule milk, Bubbas HooJoo, Clems concoction,,
Everything depends on where and who you heard it from.
And each is the absolute best stuff for,,,,,
Now let it begin;
"I was always told that the real stuff was,,,,"

Necchi I have to disagree on one point in your reply, Moose Snot is a grease whereas Moose Milk and Moose Juice are both Liquid. However I do agree with you on the number of recipes for a similar product...............watch yer top knot..............

To get moose milk, just find a cow moose with a small one and rope the cow, tie her to a tree, and milk her! :idunno: :yakyak:

Well no wonder I am having so much trouble with the Bulls! They keep following me back to the truck! :rotf:

Do a search on the Dutch Schultz and spend the best $19 you will ever spend! Geo. T.

Ive been lurking a while and reading up on so many discussions now for different patch lubes. I know a lot more about them now, but im still totally confused. Ive just ordered the schultz book. the only question I have now, is, does anyone know why use the beeswax? I was thinking just straight cooking oil (prob canola or olive) OR Hoppes #9 for patches next. Im using commercial now, but when they run out, im just making some. ill prob either presoak some and keep them in a small canister, ir get a small type of squeeze bottle and moisten a patch at a time as I go

Moose milk has been around 45+ years and, for the most part, uses a petroleum based water soluable NAPA cutting oil (but not always). Moose Juice is an alternative I came up with that uses castor oil. In 2005 or so.

Use the one that shoots best for you. ;-)

Nothing agains Dutch, but he just came up with a way to charge for what had been known and done at Friendship, IL in the 70's by a lot of shooters.

Not trying to be a smart aleck, but Friendship is in Indiana. In Illinois we are lucky they let us have muzzleloaders.

why use the beeswax?

Beeswax is an excellent lube for patches. It is my current lube mixed with sperm whale oil or peanut oil. (I have big batches of both made up)
However your question is valid. There are many oil and 'stuff' that can be used for patch lube. I have tried many over the years. Each has his favorite.
My two least favorites are chicken fat and Crisco. Both are yukky and lousy as lubes. Both are very dirty and stink. Both get too loose and slimy in warm weather and too hard in cold. Neither has a commendable feature for our purposes. Did I just :stir: ?

Napa Cutting oil was what I used to recommend but they changed the formula to a (I think) glycol based product which is fine for cutting and grinding metal but which dos not seem to work as a part of a patch lube. In fact, the newer stuff will occasional burst into flame and start fires down range.
I have since converted Ballistol which seems to work just as well as the old real water soluble oil sold by NAPA.

There are hundreds of mixtures out there and you can spend a good amount of time trying to find something that will fit you need. We as shooters have a vast amount of information to pull from. I'm in the same boat as most here when it comes to lubes. It will drive you nuts...everyone claims his and that is best who really knows. Myself I say keep it simple...I know I' m no help
