OK...just finished nuking a lot more natural lube 1000 into a some prelubed oxyoke patches...will try 2F in the .54cal again this Saturday and see how far I can drive it using 2F without wiping, using these heavily lubed patches...any reason to shoot again is a good reason!

Run a dry patch and then a lightly lubed patch before you load the first powder. I believe this makes a world of difference for the day's fouling.

Agree with that too.

One of the responders in this discussion the other day asked if I was using enough patch lube and my response was yes, I'm using the same prelubed patches I've been using.

But it kept nagging at me and tonight I inspected the bags of patches and had to agree they seemed awfully dry...like they had no body to them...been sealed in zip-loc bags but still seemed dry.

So I took 40 patches at a time and squeezed out a "finger size" line of NL1000 and melted it into them, rebagged them for use the next few Saturdays.

And for sure this Saturday I'll know if low-lube was a factor in my 2F shot strings

I don't think your problem is the amount of lube, its the amount of powder. Try using half charges of 2F and you will be able to shoot all day again.
Years ago I bought my first jar of Wonderlube and I was using about 80 grains of 2F, thinking no cleaning was needed I almost got a ball stuck on about the fifth shot. A few weeks later I ordered some prelubed Wonderlube patches from Ox Yoke. Included in the pack were some instructions that are missing from the jars. Simply put, they said for all day shooting to use lighter loads of powder.
I did and now no matter what the granulation of powder, as long as I'm using half or slightly (emphasis on slightly)larger charges I can shoot all day without cleaning.
I think the larger charges of 2F just leave too much fouling for the Wonder lube to handle without cleaning.

That may be the case...although I'm only using half charge / target loads of 70grns Goex 2F as it is.

By contrast, I can shoot 40 shot range sessions in the same rifle, same everything, using 60grn loads of Goex 3F and never wipe the whole session.

But with 70grns of 2F I can't go more than about 10-12 shots without having to stop and clean...can't believe a mere 10grns difference in volume would make such a significant difference.

I'll try the increased lube with the 70grn 2F charge this Saturday but I'll be surprised if I make it much further through the range session...if I still get problems in that 10-12 shot range, I'll drop the 2F charge back to 60grns and see what happens for the remainder of the session.

Fun stuff...good reasons to shoot !!
