Do you play?
I have a couple flutes. I am trying to teach myself to play. Think that I am slowly getting better!

By the way-nice long rifle! :winking:

Two bellys - Id be curious to know how you did your artificial striping. It looks great

no i dont this flute was a gift from a friend i wish i could play one there is nothing that can compare to the haunting sound of a flute except for the stirring sound of the bag-pipe

first you will need to strip the stock, i use a chemical stripper, after the old finish is off, let the stock dry for at least 12hr, then sand smooth.take a length of copper wire about 3-4ft long and start wraping the stock like a coil .leave about a quater inch space between wraps, now with a propane torch gentley scorch the stock until the spaces between the coils is very dark carful, not to burn the wood .after all the length is scorched let cool, move wire down to match where it stoped and repeate the burn process continue untill the entire stock is done ,allow to cool .at this point take a pad of 000steel wool and gentely rub the entire stock untill the scorch marks appear to be uniform .with a sponge or soft white cotton cloth .dampen with bleach rub the stock down and allow to dry for 6-8 hrs, this will lighten the color of the wood between the wire wraps ,after drying apply a good stain i use fiberings shoe dye,med brown apply to the entire stock i give two stainings and allow to dry for 12hr . after drying steel wool lightly as to not remove the stain you are now ready to apply the finish i use tru-oil about 4 coats follow the directions on the bottle. after all coats is applied and final coat is dry lightly steel wool with 0000, and wax a couple of coats . you are now ready to reassemble your rifle this is a simpel process but try it on a scrap of wood to get the feel of the burning take your time this is a perminate process do it carefully and it will work for you good luck ,if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me i be more than glad to assist you---------

I have a couple of questions about the process you used to make the stripes. Are the dark stripes produced from the wire burning into the wood, or is it from the wood being heated between the wire? If it is from the wood being heated between the wire, how did you get such wide light colored stripes?

the black is where the wood scorched between the wraps of wire for some strange reason the wood under the wire dont burn, the light color is the un sorched wood the size of the burn is dependent on how close the wire is placed around the stock
