The title says it all, what would be the mostest exciting North American hunt of all time to go on with your muzzleloader?

A charging grizzly bear?

The swift pronghorn?

Mountain lion during a rain storm with a flintlock?

A weasel stampede?

Not sure my heart could stand much more excitment than it gets when I realize a big beautiful buck is standing in front of me at first light, has made me and is staring hard at me with my rifle laying acoss my lap...the heart rate still sky rockets and I don't know why the sound of my heart coming out of my chest doesn't scare them away!!

But if there was something more exciting, I suppose a charging Grizzly would probably do it...particularly if I was on the ground and holding a flintlock...in fact, if I fired the rifle before he killed me the bore would corrode before I was ever found, so I might ask the Grizzly to pause a moment, set the rifle aside so it doesn't get scratched, then tell him to go ahead and bring it on...at least somebody might get a good rifle out of the deal!

Well, I'm guessing that would have to be whitetail deer hunting on regular season "doe day" in the Poconos while wearing a walnut stained hunting frock with natural linen breeches. Things ought to start getting interesting right about an hour before "legal shooting light" at sunrise.

"THERE"S ONE!"

BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM!

"Anyone still see a piece?"

I have to go with Canada geese, and pheasants a close second. Haven't done either with a ML in years, and am anxious to get back to it.

Hard to beat watching that V of geese a couple of miles out, then it starts talking to your decoys. Talk back just right, and some or all will turn toward you. It seems to take forever for them to reach you, talking all the way. Then they are circling right overhead, discussing the facts of life with your decoys. Finally a few scouts drop out of formation and descend. Feet down 30 yards away, they are so intent on your decoys they don't even react when you first stand up. I've had more prolonged fun (and anxiety) with one flock of geese than with a big game animal- ever.

Then there is the pheasant hunting. We do it without dogs and lots of walking. In the right cover they flush right at your feet, so close you can feel the wind from their wings. Kind of like hunting for land mines.

Excitement? Neither is for the faint of heart!

For me it'd be a Grizzly hands down he don't EVEN have to be chargin' :nono: just in their normal fowl mood would do!

a nice big mountain goat....it's doesn't get any better then that in my mind...................................bob

I have been fortunate to get two muzzleloading Antelope draws since Nebraska added this special season about seven/eight years ago. It's almost impossible to get a draw anymore until you get your points built up...

Anyway, the Antelope is my favorite game animal... I'll keep trying for another permit until I get the draw again.
