I have been looking at converting my T/C Flint rifle to percussion with the Pioneer Arms mule ear lock. Does anyone have experience with this lock and T/C conversions?

I don't know about T/C conversions, but a mule ear lock is a good choice for target shooting. Does have a half ****?

This is one I built for myself. It uses a vertical sear to work with the original T/C trigger. It does have a half-**** since it is used with a single trigger. It would be difficult to incorporate a fly for use with a set trigger.

My objective is to convert back and forth from flint & percussion for match shooting. This approach would allow this without buying a second barrel.

Well it's a cool way to do it but you could do it using a flint barrel and just trade a drum and nipple with the touchole liner but the muleear lock is just as cool- actually more cool to me.

Swapping between vent liner and nipple drum does not work well for very long. A nipple drum needs to be fitted up very tight and removing and reinstalling it will work the threads loose in short order. The vent liner may still be tightened by turning it in a bit farther but if you turn the drum in a bit farther the nipple will not line up with the hammer. If the goal is to shoot flint and percussion with the same rifle a side slapper is the way to go.

your right ,I didn't think about the drum tightening thing it probably would loosen up pretty quick and wouldn't take much to be kaput my apologies.

Joe,

Not so hard I think? I have one lock, with a horizontal moving sear, that includes a fly. the new lock I need to finish, has a vertical moving
'compound sear' and also has been fitted with a fly.. Just takes a bit of figgerin' and some extra work.

Sucks though, when the newly finished fly, flies off into the shop somewhere!!!

Hi
If xbr is going to use a mule ear lock, then no drum is used. If the vent liner is a 1/4"x28 thread ,a 14"x 28 thread nipple could screw right into the same hole. There would always be some fitting needed to make this work.Nothing ever seems to fit right in.
