mule ear lock

Hey guys wanted to know if any one has tried out the mule ear lock that l and r has.Was thinking of getting one.

I ahve not tried the L&R specifically. Howver I do have a mule ear rifle and lemme tell you its awsome... I love the wierd looks I get at the range lol

I have heard the they have fast ignition. They are basically an inline system with a short, straight flash channel from the side, rather from the rear. I would imagine that an under hammer would be similar, only from the bottom, rather than the side.

I have shot a mule ear shotgun on several occasions and it is VERY FAST. Bill Mowery designed the one I shot”¦and I understand it's hard to get the angles just right on the sear/tumbler but it had a very short throw and strong spring. I almost screwed the pooch and thought it was on half cock, but it wasn't. It doesn't have a half cock, so once I figured that out I was good. A friend has the mold for the lock but I can't talk him into having more cast.
Btw,this is a trap gun I shot not a hunting model. Idk if L&Rs model will have a half cocked.
I'd love to have a LH muleear.

I have a mule ear conversion lock for my Lyman Great Plains Flintlock. Black Powder was hard to obtain here in CT so I did the conversion so I could shoot the gun as a percussion rifle and use a substitute powder.
The ignition is very fast. My lock does not have a half cock, so I made up a hammer block out of antler so the hammer does not rest on the cap.
I too enjoy the strange looks I get at the range and at shoots. Everyone wants to try it. I just think it's nice to be able to switch from percussion to flint when need be.

as stated they are fast. just as fast as a under hammer. because with both the cap fires straight into the powder charge. they are great for converting a flint to precession. don't have to make and fit a drum. also easy to convert back to flint.

I just make my own :wink: the one in the foreground is a Medberry style. The one in the back is "My" version of an outside mainspring type.
one has a half position the other doesn't..

I have a Tingly mule ear shotgun with a half cock and it is my "go to" trap gun. :idunno:

I've got a custom .50 Cal mule ear with a Dale Story lock on it; very fast.
