All I can find are Four Wing CCI 0301 For Reenactment Use. Will these work for live fire?

You may have trouble with them. They are not nearly as hot
As standard caps. Guns with odd flash channels don't like them.

When I first bought my enfield .58 (15-20 years ago?)I got some caps that would fire only about every third shot (with real black). Thought it was the gun. Then I got another tin (another brand) and that gun never misfired. I was not aware there were "renenactment" caps and maybe thats what I bought?

I'd sure try for another source. I know it was frustrating as HELL

Regarding the CCI Reenactor caps. None of my rifles or muskets like them. They all loved the old 6 wing CCI caps, but many reenactment sites didn't like them. So I rejoiced when CCI said they were bringing out a line of 4 wing caps.

They're the coolest firing caps on the market. I really don't know why CCI thought that reenactors didn't need a hot spark, but I threw away the first tin I got of them and I'll never touch them again. Pure crap! Sadly, they worked marginally better with live firing than with blanks. Live, maybe 5 misfires to each bang, blanks were worse.

Stick with the German caps. If you can still find them, the no-wing are hotter than the 4 wing. But I understand that the no-wing have been out of production for a while. My Sharps like them almost as much as they do the old 6 wing. Fortunately for me, I've got a stock of both that I use for my Sharps, I use the German 4 wing for my muskets.

Sorry for the rant...

A bud insists on using musket caps rather than #11's, and he has this opinion of the reenactor caps:

He calls them MUSKRAT caps. Hates em.

Took my TC Renegade to the range today. Had no problems with the CCI 0301 Reenactment caps.

Just wondering, are those who are not having problems with the reenactor caps using the original factory nipples or Ampco or other nipples? Also, for those not having problems, how often do you change nipples?

It was given to me and it's used.

OK, the reenactor caps might still not work for you, BUT I would seriously advise you to get a new nipple, since you don't know how much the one on your gun has been used. That way you can rule out if the problem comes from the old nipple or caps or a combination of both. Even if the reenactor caps don't work on the new nipple, having a new nipple is the best thing to have on a gun that is new to you, IMO and experience.

OK then with the new nipple (old/worn nipples will cause accuracy problems, btw) try the reenactor caps with live rounds and see what kind of groups you get. If you get good groups, then you have nothing to be concerned about. If not, try using RWS caps to see if they cause better groups. Best wishes for you.

I got a couple tins of the CCI musket caps from Cabelas last month. Says on the lid "for reenactment and live fire" so apparently these aren't just for reenactors. I fired one dry on my Aston horse pistol's nipple and it discharged nicely.
