Here is one that I finished recently for an auction. The fur is muskrat.

I used the piece of the flap that I cut out as an inside pocket...

I have been looking at some of the hair on bags youall have been making and I have an old bear hide that I am thinking about doing something with. I just can never make up my mind on the size :idunno: :idunno:

depends on the time that you are portraying...mid to late 18th century would be smaller bags worn up high on the sides...late 18th to mid 19th century would be larger bags. Also depends on how much stuff ya wanna carry with ya. Build a smaller bag and you will carry less stuff.

You always make nice bags.
I, too, have a bear skin that I want to make the paws into flaps for bags, but it hung so long on the wall the skin is brittle.

Maybe you could find a piece that isn't tooo brittle and glue it to a piece of leather that can be used as the flap...can't guarantee that it will work, but its worth a try.

I thought of that, and I also need to figure out how to get the felt off. It's a rug, and that guy glued it on to stay! I'm thinkin' with all that material it would be heavy. I put some Lexol on the hide, but it was difficult to get it through the hair. Mind games!
