Hi,
Just checking to see who might live near Toledo or Bowling Green, OH, since I ordered a fusil kit and might want to consult some of you all as a newbee builder. I'll certainly ask questions and read and search the forum for information. I'll be using the available books for guidance as well.

Sorry maybe I should have asked about those who are 1-2 hours away from the Toledo area.

I grew up just South of you in Lima. Lodi, home of the Log Cabin Shop, is about 90 miles from Toledo. They offer gun building classes about once a month that are attended by some of the best builders in the area, who are there to give advice and hands on guidance.

Hit this link and hit the "classes" tab on the left: http://www.logcabinshop.com/

They have a fully outfitted shop with several benches and a vast library. Real nice people too.

Look into it. Even if you can't make the classes, it would be well worth the drive. Their museum is a must see if in the area, as I don't know that there is a bigger collection of original Ohio rifles on display anywhere.....and there examples of others as well.

Enjoy, J.D.

re-enactor: Welcome to wonderful world of Black Powder.I live just down the road from you in Fremont. There are several very good builders in this area that I would be happy to recommend. One of them and I go to Lodi about twice monthly on a Saturday. There is usually some of the best there and we just set in the museum and listen to the likes of Ian Pratt, Jim Kibler, John Gaeckle, etc.discuss building, history, etc. We'd be glad to have you ride with us. Give me a PM or call at 419 334 2313 anytime.

JD...I spent one year in Toledo.....even went water sking on the Maumee river...I'm a BRAVE man... :youcrazy:

I bet your car never saw a hill......what happened when your 1st time in Kentucky???? :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:

Thanks a bunch. I am looking forward to meeting you all and learning more about muzzleloaders. It will be great to get advice on my fusil build.

JD, I've enjoyed reading your posts too.

Hey Marc, Less hills saves on brake jobs.....of course where I live now is kinda like payback for those days.

At least our deer up there were built right from walking on level ground. New a fella who paid to have some deer brought up from Kentucky once and they just kept saggering around in circles....what with the legs on one side being shorter than the other two.

Enjoy, J.D.

Jim,

You'll love the Log Cabin Shop. I try to stop there whenever I'm on the way through Ohio going to visit the folks and have gotten some good deals there over the years. Great place and great people.

Would love to be able to make some of those Saturday meetings with you guys. Who knows? maybe I'll be coming through on a Saturday sometime.

Enjoy, J.D.

J.D., I certainly will plan on stopping at the Log Cabin Shop in the near future. Quite a few events of interest being held there.
Pretty exciting to learn from you all on this.

Take care,
Jim
