I just thought I'd pass on some good news for muzzleloader deer hunters in SD. In past years, the muzzleloader season was for anterless deer only and you had to apply for a tag for a single county. As a result of the exploding deer populations, they changed their tags so that they can be used anywhere in the state, and they have a limited number of "any deer" tags. :RO: You still have to draw a tag, but at least you have a chance to shoot a buck with a muzzleloader.

The only restriction they have is that they don't allow scopes.

The bad news is that I missed the first deadline for drawing tags. The deadline was June 6, so all of the "any deer" tags are sold out. There are usually plenty of anterless deer tags available.

Actually, the season is so late (Dec. - Jan.) that most of the bucks are anterless anyway. You can't eat antlers either.
