I received my balls today from Cheap Shot. I didn't examine each and every one of them, but, as a lot, they appear quite fair.
I'm looking forward to trying them out this weekend for accuracy. I'm not the shooter that you folks are, yet, but I'll be able to judge them by my means.
I'm also going to try lining milk jugs up to see about expansion. Just a curiosity, I guess.

Take care, snagg

I shot another 50 of them this morning...coke cans on the 50yd berm...paid no attention to spru position or anything...just shot the cans

One of the neat things about using imperfect balls is you can always blame them if you miss. :rotf:

Roundball: Seems as though you are having pretty good luck with those r/b's., shooting 50 yds. and hitting pop cans. Do you plan on being a repeat customer for Cheap Shot?

Zonie: Years and years ago when I bought my first bow for archery hunting the store owner gave me a small paper bag with small slips of paper in it. The slips of paper had excuses written on them. He said it was an excuses bag for poorly made shots. I had a good laugh on that one, but I still remember it today. Seems as though I might need a new excuses bag for my flintlocking. The first excuse will be " The sprue must not have been lined up quite right ". Ha Ha. Now I have my first one. I can hang my excuses bag next to my Possibles bag.

Crack Stock: I'm not sure if I could use .495 in my rifle. It might be a bit snug. Thanks, though.

Take care, snagg

Anyone.....

Could I get their info... number, website, etc.
I'd like to try some and have them assayed before placing a larger order. I hate casting from a single cavity mold.

I bought 1000 .490s...used 100 so far, work perfectly for my weekend range trips.

I think he offers a couple other calibers...440s, and maybe .530s...you can ask him at:
[email protected]

I already have a strong inventory of Hornady .440s, .490s, .530's, 570s so this lets me avoid wasting them just plinking...but based upon the .490 performance so far, I wouldn't hesitate to order from him again.

Let me say some things clearly...these Cheapshot balls are what they are.

1) I have no affiliation with this little start up cast ball operation at all and it makes no difference to me what-so-ever if anyone decides to use them or not...I am merely passing on info for anyone who might find it useful;

2) For all those who prefer to spend the time weighing & micing their lead balls, for those who consider themselves to be serious bullseye shooters, for those who want each ball to be museum quality perfection, etc...do not buy these balls as I'm certain you'd find fault with them and complain.

3) But for those who want to shoot a lot and minimize costs but do not cast their own lead balls, these appear to be a very practical alternative, and are half the price of the nmore expensive Hornady/Speer swaged balls.

IMO, I think the whole issue of minor variations in cast balls is blown out of proportion...it certainly is not much of an issue at a mere 50yds where the ball is still under a reasonably full head of steam and minor imperfections don't have much time to affect a balls flight...case in point, I've shot 100 of them now at 50yds and don't even bother to look at or position the spru in any particular direction...remember the main purpose of rifling.

I haven't tried them at 100yds yet but if minor imperfections were going to have an affect, maybe they'd start to show up at long distance with the group opening up some...dunno.
